Todays Wrestling Class

Wrestling has a long and rich history in Australia, dating back to the early 1900s. The sport initially gained popularity as a form of entertainment, with professional wrestling matches drawing large crowds across the country.

In the 1950s and 1960s, amateur wrestling also gained popularity in Australia, with the establishment of local clubs and the formation of state and national governing bodies. The sport was included in the Olympic Games for the first time in 1952, and Australian wrestlers began to compete at the international level.

In the 1970s and 1980s, professional wrestling continued to draw large crowds in Australia, with the emergence of stars like Mario Milano, Spiros Arion, and Killer Kowalski. However, the sport also faced increased scrutiny and criticism, with concerns raised about the scripted nature of the matches and the safety of the wrestlers.

In recent years, amateur wrestling has become increasingly popular in Australia, with more and more young people taking up the sport. Wrestling clubs and competitions can now be found across the country, and Australian wrestlers regularly compete at the international level.

Wrestling has also become an important part of mixed martial arts (MMA) in Australia, with many MMA fighters incorporating wrestling techniques into their training and competition strategies.

Overall, wrestling has played an important role in Australia’s sporting history, both as a form of entertainment and as a competitive sport. Today, the sport continues to evolve and grow, with a new generation of wrestlers carrying on the proud tradition of this ancient and dynamic sport.
